This first post on The Rustle bears good news: my third picture book as an illustrator, Milo the Knight (written by Grégoire Laforce), will be released on November 19th! The North American French edition (Milo le chevalier) will hit the shelves about a month before that. Milo will also be published in France, Brazil, and Korea in the near future.
Here is the cover (yes, the title is GOLD FOIL!):
Here’s the pitch for the book (by my editor, Milky Way Picture Books):
From the moment he was born, all Milo has ever known is knighthood. After all, Milo lives in the shadow of generation upon generation of knights before him and feels duty-bound to defend his colony should a dragon ever attack. But while training one day, rain begins to fall and eventually turns Milo’s armor to rust, leaving the young knight weakened and unable to move.
The empowering tale of a knight who emotionally sheds the only identity he’s ever known to discover his true self.
You can preorder the book from a local indie bookstore in the US from Bookshop here if you’d like:
Or from Bookmanager to shop local in Canada:
It’s also available from Indigo, Barnes and Noble, and… well, from Amazon.
I am so, so excited for that book to hit the shelves. It was an absolute joy to work on, and I think that joy can be felt in the drawings. I’m really happy with how it turned out.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be publishing a series of posts lifting the curtain on all the work that goes into illustrating a picture book. I’ll give you a little tour of my Milo sketchbook, my studio, and… my mind.
Let me know in the comments if there is anything specific you’d like to know about my picture book process. I’ll make sure to work that into the next posts.
The first post in this series (titled “Milo: the Process”) will focus on character design. It will be going out to subscribers in two weeks. Subscribe so you don’t miss it!
Thank you for being here 🏰 !
